You can now launch the XPAND Code Reader from the App Clips Code.
This is only available on iOS 14.3 and above, though you can also try reading it with the standard camera app.
The XPAND/QR/EAN/UPC code reader will launch without any app installation required.
Pinch-to-zoom is also supported.
In certain situations, the reading distance of XPAND Code has been significantly increased.
For iOS 14 to 14.2, you can still launch directly from a QR code without installation.
For Android (excluding some models), you can launch it directly via the “Try Now” button, through Google Play.
Both the App Clips Code and the QR code contain an embedded URL for launching the app, but accessing the same URL in Safari does not appear to launch App Clips.
At present, the only way to launch it from a web page is via a smart banner.
Please note that App Clips will not launch with any QR code reader other than the standard camera app.
This appears to be a specification that applies to the standard camera app only.
