"XPAND.CODES Reader" can scan the spatial-link barcode "XPAND Code" from a distance of up to 200 metres. The high-performance barcode scanning engine powering this app comes from "Vision Smarts SPRL" (Belgium; hereafter "VS").
As the digitalisation of all manner of businesses has become increasingly urgent, connecting physical spaces, shops, and objects with smartphones has become a critical factor.
QR codes and barcodes (JAN codes) serve as the gateway here, but since the standard camera barcode reader on a smartphone is not built to commercial-grade specifications, the choice of scanning engine matters greatly.
VS Reader has been in continuous use across Europe for over ten years. Its key strengths are exceptional scanning performance — reading codes from as close as 5 cm or as far as 200 m — an extremely straightforward implementation method, and a cost-to-performance ratio that is less than half that of comparable competing products.
That said, dealing with VS as an overseas transaction with English-only support has been one hurdle for Japanese companies.
